Through this work, I aimed to challenge conventional aesthetics, encouraging a new way of looking, while reflecting on the past, present, and future of our species. As humans, we have a responsibility to protect our planet and consider the impact we leave on other species too.
It is crucial to ensure that we contribute to a world that is better than the one we were born into.
As a graphic designer, I strive to integrate pressing social and environmental issues into my work, using visual experimentation to spread awareness and new perspectives on sustainability and responsibility.
During my first year at university, I had the opportunity to experiment with typography, materials, and various textures, including textiles. We explored different ways to express type, and I wanted to take a more hands-on, artistic approach rather than relying on digital methods. To embrace this, I dedicated time to learning traditional printing techniques such as screen printing, letterpress, colour etching, and lino cutting, all of which I thoroughly enjoyed throughout the process. These creative experiments allowed me to explore a more tangible nature of design, and some of them have been incorporated into the final spread, adding depth to the project.
It was important for me to approach this project ethically and highlight issues that matter to me most. As an animal lover, I researched the impact of animal consumption on both the environment and wildlife. Understanding the consequences of industrial consumption and its effect on ecosystems motivated me to incorporate this theme into my work, using hand-drawn design as a tool to encourage more sustainable choices especially from a young age.
